Ancient Roman bronze steelyard weight, with the distinct side silhouette of the stylized male face, showing a prominent nose, a textured chin/beard area, and the contour of the decorative headdress or hair. It served as a sliding counter-weight on a steelyard balance scale (known in Latin as a statera). Merchants throughout the Roman Empire used these scales to weigh goods and commodities in marketplaces. These weights were hollow-cast from copper alloy (bronze) via the lost-wax method and subsequently filled with molten lead to achieve a precise weight requirement Accession #: 5611 3D Model made with Artec Space Spider This work is part of the collaboration agreement between Global Digital Heritage and the Museum of Archaeology, Paleontology, and Science (MAPS).
