Follow the chain of Sulfuric Acid from end to end: 7 atoms, 6 bonds (4 single and 2 double) and no ring anywhere. Give each pair of students the model and a blank sheet: recording every engraved symbol should lead them to 2 H + 4 O + 1 S, which is 7 atoms. On the printed model, students can point to the sulfonic acid group (-SO3H).
