With this nested cup weight, also known as a "sluitgewicht" or "pijlgewicht" in Dutch, merchants once weighed gold, silver, or medicines with great precision. The set consists of seven cups that fit precisely inside one another: five of brass and two of tin. The smallest piece is solid and closes the series; this is called the disc. Together, all the pieces weigh a quarter pound: 117 grams. On top of the lid is a clasp, fastened with tin. It sits exactly between two spots where a handle once was attached — that handle is now missing. The lid also bears the maker's mark. Found in shipwreck BZN 17, also known as Palmwood Wreck, in the Wadden Sea near Texel*
