CT Scan of the Skullcap of Sambungmacan man. Traditionally classified as Homo erectus, there have been recent suggestions, including by John Hawks and Chris Stringer, that all asian pleistocene hominin remains (excluding obvious outliers like floresiensis) are Denisovans. John hawks says :"I have for some time thought it likely that the Ngandong, Sambungmacan, and other later Middle Pleistocene fossils from this region are part of a Denisova-like lineage. "
With an age range of 40-70kya, to me it seems exceedingly unlikely that Solo Man is truly erectus. Given the genetic data of modern populations from south east asia and oceania indicates the highest denisovan introgression of any population, it is bizarre we have no known south east asian denisovan fossils. Sambungmacan and Ngadong being Homo longi rather than Homo erectus would solve this problem nicely, with the exception of the small brain size, which averages around 1000cm^3. still, this esimate is based only on the fragmentary skullcap remains
