The Hai class is a fictional low-profile torpedo raider of the Imperial German Navy, developed as part of my alternate-history scenario “The Imperial Wars.”
Beginning in 1905, renewed imperial and colonial rivalries erupt into a series of interconnected conflicts across the globe. Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, the United States, Japan, the Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungary and Russia compete for colonies, strategic ports, trade routes and spheres of influence. What initially begins as a collection of colonial disputes gradually develops into a wider struggle between the world's major powers.
The Hai class represents an experimental German attempt to create a vessel capable of fulfilling many of the roles later associated with submarines, without relying on the still unreliable and dangerous diving technology of the period.
