Vanillin (C8H8O3, CAS 121-33-5) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Each atom is labelled with its own engraved element symbol: no colour chart needed.
Start with the ring system: Vanillin has one aromatic 6-membered ring; in total the model carries 19 bonds (12 single, 1 double and 6 aromatic). A five-minute warm-up: read the symbol on every sphere and write down the totals (8 C + 8 H + 3 O = 19 atoms). Spot-the-group challenge: can students find the aldehyde group (-CHO), the phenolic hydroxyl group (Ar-OH) and the ether linkage (C-O-C)?
