A high-resolution laser 3D scan of Panlonggao (盘龙糕), a traditional Chinese cake from Beijing Daoxiangcun (北京稻香村) — one of China's most iconic traditional pastry brands, founded in 1895.
The cake is embossed with a coiled loong motif, a symbol traditionally associated with the 惊蛰 (Jingzhe / Awakening of Insects) solar term. In Chinese culture, the loong emerging from hibernation at this time of year represents the awakening of spring, and the cake carries the blessing of favorable weather, a bountiful harvest, and good health. The filling is made with osmanthus flower and Chinese yam, giving it a fragrant, subtly sweet profile with a soft cake texture.
