This silver philipsdaalder was struck in Nijmegen in 1561, under Philip II (1555-1581), Duke of Guelders. The obverse shows an armoured bust of Philip II facing left, legend PHILIPPVS D G HSPA REX DVX GEL 1561 — "Philip, by the grace of God King of Spain, Duke of Guelders". The reverse depicts a crowned coat of arms on a cross of sticks, flanked by two fire steels, legend DOMINVS MICHI ADIVTOR — "The Lord is my helper". The mint mark, a Guelders cross, identifies Nijmegen as the mint. Weight: 32.45g (ref. vHoudt 265.NIJ.1561). One of 44 coins from a hoard found on the Ter Coulster estate, Heiloo.
