There is not a single ring in Hexane; 20 atoms are linked by 19 bonds in an open chain (all of them single). Hand the model round and let students tally the engraved atoms: 6 C + 14 H, 20 in total. A good fit for lessons on saturated carbon chains and tetrahedral (sp3) carbon. Isomer pair for the classroom: 2-Methylpentane (CAS 107-83-5) shares the formula but not the structure.
