Bob Morane is the name of a series of novels—and its eponymous hero—created in December 1953 by Belgian novelist Henri Vernes for the "Marabout Junior" paperback collection published by André Gérard. These novels were subsequently adapted into comic books.
Initially conceived as an adventurer who was part vigilante and part secret agent, the character evolved over his half-century of existence, becoming embroiled in increasingly complex adventures. Exotic journeys—blending espionage with classic adventure—were soon supplemented by science-fiction themes, influenced by the author's close friend Bernard Heuvelmans, the father of cryptozoology.
