Let the group sketch what they see in Styrene, namely one aromatic 6-membered ring; afterwards they compare the sketch with the 16 bonds on the model (9 single, 1 double and 6 aromatic, drawn in Kekulé form). Students work from the model back to the formula C8H8: the symbol count is 8 C + 8 H, or 16 atoms all told. Use it when you teach aromaticity and delocalised electrons.
