8-Hydroxyquinoline (C9H7NO, CAS 148-24-3) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Instead of colour coding, every sphere carries its engraved element symbol.
Turn the model in your hand to see the shape of 8-Hydroxyquinoline: two 6-membered rings, fused along a shared edge, both aromatic, and 19 bonds in total (8 single and 11 aromatic). Quick starter: ask students to count the engraved symbols (9 C + 7 H + 1 N + 1 O) and check that they add up to 18 atoms and the formula C9H7NO. On the printed model, students can point to the phenolic hydroxyl group (Ar-OH) and the pyridine-type ring nitrogen.
