Ask the class whether Triethanolamine contains a ring. It does not: 25 atoms and 24 bonds (all of them single) make up an open structure. Give each pair of students the model and a blank sheet: recording every engraved symbol should lead them to 6 C + 15 H + 1 N + 3 O, which is 25 atoms. Use it when you teach alcohols and hydrogen bonding, as well as amines and basicity.
