The Boeing C-17A Globemaster III is a premier, long-range heavy-lift military transport aircraft engineered to perform both strategic airlift and tactical airdrop missions globally. Originally developed by McDonnell Douglas during the 1980s and early 1990s, the aircraft entered service with the United States Air Force (USAF) in 1995, with production concluding in November 2015 after 279 units were completed. It is highly regarded for its unique ability to haul massive payloads directly into short, unpaved, and forward-deployed airfields.
